Q.   Can I change my item’s starting price, reserve price, quantity, or title?
A No, these items cannot be changed once your auction has begun.  This is why you are encouraged to carefully check the Item Review page for accuracy prior to starting your auction.

Q.   How do I change my item’s category?
A You cannot currently change categories once your auction has begun.  If you do not sell your item the first time you may relist it in a different category once your auction has ended.

Q.   How do I change my item’s description?
A. You cannot change the original description of your auction, however, you can add to it.  This is done by selecting Member Services from the top of any page, and then select Add to Description.  Please Note:  Any additions to an item’s description will be clearly marked with the date/time of the addition.

Q.   How do I end my auction early?
A You must have a valid reason for ending an auction early.  Ending an auction simply changes the ending time of the auction to the current time.  If there are bidders in the auction when it is ended,  the high bidder has a right to purchase the item(s) for the current bid price at  the time the auction is ended(if it meets the reserve price).  To end an auction select Member Services from the menu at the top of any page.  Next select End Auction.

Q.   How do I find the results of an auction?
A Upon the completion of an auction,   the high bidder(s) and seller will be notified via e-mail of the results of the auction.  You can also find out the results of an auction by using our search feature.

Q.   How are bid increments determined?
A Bid Increments are determined by the current bid.  As the current bid increases, so does the size of the increment.   Please refer to the following chart. (All values are in US Dollars)

Q.   How does “Auto-Bid” work?
A Auto-Bid works for you while you are away.  Using the Bid History Chart below, bidding was started at $5.00 by Bidder #1.   The next day, Bidder #2 bid $6.25.  Later that day (@1:43PM) Bidder #3 placed a bid of $10.00.  But beacuse of our Auto-Bid feature, our system placed a bid of $6.50 (just one bid increment above Bidder #2) to make him the high bidder.  Three days later Bidder #4, not knowing Bidder #3’s bid of $10.00 exists, bids $9.00 @ 12:44:50.   Bidder #4 is immediatly outbid by Bidder #3’s Auto-Bid, making the current high bid $9.25.  Bidder #4 returns, and places a bid of $10.00, but because of Auto-Bid, the system enters a bid of $10.00 for Bidder #3 first, therefore ensuring Bidder #3 the high bidders position. This system operates automaticlly, at all times.  You are encourged to bid the most you are willing to pay for an item.

The bidding started at $5.00.

Bidder Bid Amount Bid Date/Time
Bidder#1 $5.00 7/19/98 10:57:03 PM
Bidder#2 $6.25 7/20/98 10:02:14 AM

Bidder#3 $10.00 7/23/98 12:45:20 PM
Bidder#4 $10.00 7/23/98 12:45:21 PM

Q.   When I bid, the system tells me I am outbid.  Why does that happen?
A Our Auto-Bid system will enter bids automaticlly on behalf of other bidders, if they had placed bids higher to the one just you just placed.  See the example above for a detailed explaniation of how the Auto-Bid feature works.
Q.   Can I retract my bid?
A. A bidder cannot retract his/her own bid.

Q.   What does the different colors in the “time remaining” block signify?
A.   The different background colors of the Time Remaining block signify how soon the auction will end.Color 1 – Auction closes in greater than 3 hours from now.

Color 2 – Auction closes in less than 3 hours but more than 30 minutes.

Color 3 – Auction closes in less than 30 minutes from now.

Q.   What is a reserve price?
A.   The seller of an item can elect to set a reserve price for an item.  This is the minimum amount that the seller will accept for the item.  This price will be hidden from all bidders. The starting bid may be lower than this reserve price but if the bidding does not reach the reserve price the seller is not required to sell the item.  The seller may lower the reserve price but may not raise it.

Q.   How does a Dutch Auction work?
A.   Dutch auctions are used when the seller has many of the same item to sell and wants the bidders to be able to bid on one or multiple items.  In the Dutch auction format, the bidders specify how many of the items they want to bid on.  For example:  John has 25 computer monitors he wants to sell.  The monitors are all brand new and of the same type.  He sets the starting bid at $200 per monitor.  Sally wants to buy 10 of the monitors so she places a bid for 10 of them at $200 a piece.  Mike is also interested in these monitors and places a bid for 15 of them at $200 a piece.   Currently both Mike and Sally are bidding on separate items and a bid has been placed on all of the available monitors.  Now Vicky decides she wants 5 monitors.   Since all of the monitors now have a bid placed on them, she must outbid the last bidder which was Mike in this case.  She places a bid of $250 each for 5 monitors.   Now Mike is the high bidder for only 10 of his original 15 he bid on.  If the auction ends with no more bids placed, Sally would have a winning bid for 10 of the monitors, Mike would have a winning bid for 10 of the monitors, and Vicky would have a winning bid for the remaining 5 monitors. The selling price of all 25 monitors is determined by the lowest winning bid price. In this scenario, all 25 monitors would sell for $200 each.
